What Car to Pick to Get a Better Auto Insurance Rate- Used or New?
I know, I know your answer. If you are a parent the answer is used. If you are a teen the answer would be new. There are different points of view when it comes to picking a vehicle for your teen. One of the big burdens you will have to deal is the insurance premium. As a general rule the newere and more expensive is the vehicle the more you will have to pay to have it covered.
No matter what vehicle you will buy- used or new keep in mind the following:
1. Car with a lot of safety features will reduce the insurance premium that you will have to pay. That’s why even your son or daughter would be driving your old vehicle make sure it has a lot of them installed. Not is that because of the insurance premium itself only but and for the life of your teen while on the road.
2. Older car that you already have paid off in full and own means that you can buy only one way insurance. If you or your teen thinks about leasing a car that you will be required to pay for full coverage which in a lot of money that you can save just by buying an old vehicle.
3. No matter what vehicle of what age you would buy in the beginning you will have to pay a steeper car insurance rate- there is no other way. You can make it more bearable by enrolling your kid in a defensive driving school. Before you do that make sure you call your insurance broker to find out which ones are licensed in the area where you live.
Choosing a car for your teen depends on many factors and there is no one right answer. Some people want to drive the latest vehicles no matter what they will have to pay. Others are ok with used ones and feel great about being able to drive to go to work or school or out with friends and knowing how much they have saves on auto insurance.
